Ever thought of living without water? That’s a very ridiculous question, isn’t it? But when the situation comes down to a clogged water pipe, this becomes a reality.
Water pipes are the backbone of our house’s water system. An efficient and simple water system is quite a blessing. Along with that good water pressure is a bonus! All of these good qualities of the water system majorly depends on what kind of pipes are selected. The biggest water pipe diameter is approximately 3.70 m, while the smallest water pipe can measure upto 12.5 mm. Along with the diameter, thickness of the water pipes also vary.
While installing water pipes, there’s a wide range of materials to choose from. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is important to know about them if one has to choose the correct plumbing system for their house or building. Different types of water pipes are:-
- Plastic pipes:
- PVC Pipes: Pipes which are made from polyvinyl chloride are called PVC pipes. They’re lightweight, corrosion proof and affordable.
- UPVC pipes: This is a variant in pvc pipes except materials like BPA and phthalates are excluded from the mixture making it more eco-friendly.
- PPR pipes: Polypropylene Random Copolymer plastic is used to make PPR. This type of pipe was introduced quite recently but it was adapted quickly since it has many benefits over basic plastic pipes.
- Metal pipes:
- Cast iron pipes: This type of pipe is best suited for high water pressure.
- Steel pipes: Steel pipes are undoubtedly the strongest and most durable type of pipe.
- Copper pipes: These pipes weigh light compared to other metal pipes but are more prone to corrosion.
